COURSE CONTENTS 

Modern orthodontics is increasingly understood as a multidisciplinary field, in continuous dialogue with gnathology, periodontology, dento-alveolar surgery, posturology, and facial aesthetics. Each treatment plan arises from the integration of knowledge from multiple areas of dental medicine and aims to restore the patient’s functional and aesthetic balance as a whole.

Within this integrated framework, it is becoming increasingly evident that the same therapeutic objective can be achieved through different pathways: methods, operational philosophies, and clinical strategies which, although diverse, converge toward a common result when guided by accurate diagnosis and grounded in a solid understanding of biological and biomechanical principles.

This course, led by Prof. Gabriella Galluccio, is designed to explore these clinical possibilities by offering participants a structured overview of the various treatment routes and the tools needed to make informed and individualized decisions.

Participants will have the opportunity to examine “alternative” approaches to traditional orthodontic practice through real clinical cases and personalized therapeutic strategies. The training day, combining theory and practice, includes methodological framing, case analysis, and hands-on discussion of clinical applications. The goal is to provide participants with tools for critical evaluation of their clinical choices and with methods readily applicable to daily practice.

This professional development day is dedicated to dental practitioners and specialists who wish to update their skills and expand their perspective on contemporary orthodontics.

Teacher

Prof. GABRIELLA GALLUCCIO

Associate Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Sciences at Sapienza University of Rome, where she also serves as Chair of the Master’s Degree Program in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics. She is the Deputy Director of the Postgraduate School in Orthodontics and Head of the High-Specialty Service in Pre-Surgical Orthodontics at Policlinico Umberto I University Hospital.

Her teaching and research activities focus on orthodontics and clinical gnathology, with specific interest in craniofacial asymmetries, temporomandibular disorders (TMD), and integrated therapeutic strategies—including the application of acupuncture and auriculotherapy in cranio-mandibular dysfunctions and in the management of pain in orthodontic patients.

With over thirty years of clinical and academic experience, she specializes in fixed and functional orthodontics, TMD, and orofacial pain, with long-standing research on the interactions between postural systems, the stomatognathic apparatus, and integrated therapeutic approaches.

She is the author of more than 100 scientific publications in international journals and has contributed to key academic textbooks in dentistry and orthodontics. She is a member of several national and international scientific societies, including SIDO (Italian Society of Orthodontics), AAO (American Association of Orthodontists), and WFO (World Federation of Orthodontists).
