COURSE CONTENTS

To understand Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) means entering a millenary system of thought that unites body, mind, and environment in a single dynamic vision of the human being. But to truly comprehend it, books are not enough — one must return to its roots: immerse oneself in its cultural context, live the medicine in its natural environment, listen to the language, observe the interaction between doctor and patient, and grasp the rhythms and symbols that form its essence.

This study trip was created to offer participants a direct experience in the places where TCM was born, practiced, and constantly renewed. Between Shanghai, a metropolis where traditional and modern medicine coexist in integrated institutions, and Bozhou, the ancient capital of Chinese herbal medicine, participants will witness how the principles of TCM take shape in clinical practice, natural pharmacology, and everyday life. A journey of training and discovery between two symbolic places of TCM, designed for those who wish to deepen their understanding of acupuncture and traditional practices directly in the contexts where they originated and continue to evolve.

SHANGHAI – Where Tradition Meets the Medicine of the Future

The first part of the journey takes place in Shanghai, a dynamic metropolis and an international center of excellence for the integration of Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Participants will attend lectures and seminars dedicated to the theoretical and clinical foundations of TCM (Yin–Yang, Zang–Fu, meridians, traditional diagnosis), as well as clinical observation sessions offering the opportunity to witness the daily practice of acupuncture and tuina in specialized departments, observing how traditional and biomedical medicine coexist in an integrated hospital model.

This training and clinical-practical activity will take place at two world-renowned institutions for TCM:

  • Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, one of the most prestigious universities in China, is a meeting point for scientific research, teaching, and clinical practice. Here, TCM is studied and applied in a modern academic environment where ancient tradition and biomedical medicine engage in an integrated dialogue.
  • First Peoples Hospital of Shanghai, one of the city’s historic hospitals and an internationally recognized center of clinical excellence, is a place where daily medical practice combines acupuncture, herbal medicine, and traditional diagnostics with the most advanced contemporary medical methodologies.

Carrying out part of the training program in these institutions means entering the very heart of TCM, directly observing how a millenary tradition continues to renew itself and find application within today’s Chinese healthcare system.

BOZHOU – At the Authentic Roots of Traditional Chinese Medicine

From the cosmopolitan rhythm of Shanghai, the journey continues to Bozhou, in the heart of Anhui province, considered for centuries the capital of Chinese herbal medicine. It is here that Traditional Chinese Medicine has its most authentic roots: among herbal markets, decoction laboratory, and temples dedicated to Hua Tuo, the celebrated physician of the Han dynasty, participants will have the opportunity to observe up close the supply chain of medicinal raw materials and understand how ancient wisdom continues to guide modern practice. This is a rare destination in international study programs – still profoundly traditional, far from tourist routes, where TCM maintains a direct link with nature and popular culture.

An immersive cultural and life experience

The program of this journey goes beyond the clinical and academic sphere: it also offers moments of cultural exploration and discovery, providing a complete experience of the Chinese world.

There will be time to relax and discover local flavors, historical sites, and traditional neighborhoods — a balance between study, culture, and leisure that fully reflects BOBIH’s philosophy.

A unique experience that combines clinical observation, academic learning, and cultural immersion, under the sign of dialogue between tradition and modernity.

At the end of the training program, each participant will receive a certificate of attendance.
